Konsumwachstum fiskalisch gestützt, gedämpfter Optimismus für das Weihnachtsgeschäft

Abstract

Der private Konsum entwickelt sich antizyklisch im Konjunkturverlauf. Mit der Konjunkturerholung nahm daher der Konsum 1994 schwächer zu als die Einkommen der privaten Haushalte. Durch die Steuerreform sollte der Konsum zusätzliche Impulse erhalten, obwohl davon auszugehen war, daß die steuerlichen Entlastungen erst mit gewisser Verzögerung im Konsum sichtbar würden und ein Teil zunächst gespart würde. Nicht so günstig waren 1994 die Aussichten des österreichischen Einzelhandels. Nicht zuletzt aufgrund von Abwertungen in wichtigen Zielländern und Verbilligungen von Fernreisen verbrachten die Österreicher verstärkt ihren Urlaub in diesen Gebieten, und weniger Gäste kamen nach Österreich, wodurch Kaufkraft für den Handel verlorenging. Gemildert werden könnte dieser Kaukraftverlust durch das Weihnachtsgeschäft, für das ein realer Zuwachs von bis zu 1% zu erwarten ist.
