Österreichs Landwirtschaft auf dem Weg in den EG-Binnenmarkt

Abstract

Der EG-Beitritt Österreichs ist für die Landwirtschaft eine schwere Herausforderung. Die Agrarpreise sind höher als in der Gemeinschaft und müßten nach derzeitigem Stand um etwa 15% zurückgenommen werden. Zudem ist die heimische Ernährungswirtschaft dem Wettbewerb auf einem offenen europäischen Binnenmarkt nur zum Teil gewachsen. Wegen der Preiseinbußen würde die Rentabilität der landwirtschaftlichen Erzeugung in den meisten Sparten erheblich sinken; auch die Agrareinkommen kämen unter Druck. Dies würde den Strukturwandel beschleunigen. Der entscheidende Vorteil der Integration ist der freie Zugang zu den kaufkräftigen Märkten der Gemeinschaft. Um diesen Vorteil auch zu nutzen, müssen Landwirtschaft und Ernährungswirtschaft allerdings wettbewerbsfähiger werden.
