Leistungsbilanz und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit

Abstract

In den letzten Jahren (1987/1990) hat sich die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der österreichischen Wirtschaft verbessert. Trotz einer positiven Wachstumsdifferenz gegenüber dem Ausland nahm das Leistungsbilanzaktivum zu. Österreich konnte Marktanteile im Export gewinnen, während die Importintensität (relativ zum Ausland) unverändert blieb. Die langfristige Verbesserung der Leistungsbilanz von Mitte der siebziger bis Mitte der achtziger Jahre – sie war in der Handelsbilanz besonders deutlich ausgeprägt – ging dagegen in erster Linie darauf zurück, daß das Wachstum der Inlandsnachfrage hinter dem OECD-Durchschnitt zurückblieb. Das Importwachstum war dadurch gedämpft.
