Aufschwung beschleunigt Preisauftrieb kaum

Abstract

Seit Mitte 1988 beschleunigt sich der Preisauftrieb in fast allen OECD-Ländern. Die entschiedene Reaktion der Notenbanken auf den Preisanstieg schwächte die Konjunktur in den USA, aber auch in Großbritannien, Kanada, Australien und Schweden. Die weltweite Nachfrageschwäche setzte die Rohwarenpreise unter Druck. Dieser preisdämpfende Effekt wurde durch die Aufwärtsbewegung der Kurse im Europäischen Währungssystem noch verstärkt. In Österreich wirkte überdies eine Reihe von Sonderfaktoren: Der direkte Preiseffekt der Steuerreform Anfang 1989 (+¼ Prozentpunkt), fiel für den Vorjahresvergleich weg. Die amtlich geregelten Dienstleistungs- und Tabakpreise wurden kaum erhöht. Darüber hinaus dürfte der starke Zustrom von ausländischen Arbeitskräften den Lohnauftrieb und damit den Anstieg der Dienstleistungspreise mildern. Im II. Quartal lag die Inflationsrate bei nur 3,0%.
