Abstract

Economic literacy is increasingly important competency in today’s complex socioeconomic systems, however no attempt was made to present a comprehensive literature mapping of the economic literacy so far. Throughout this article we aimed to synthesize knowledge of current research and provide an initial point for upcoming research with the aim to recognize significant determinants of economic literacy, as well as variables that are affected by it. Literature analysis of economic literacy, focusing specifically on secondary schools and universities, was performed based on scientific search strategy run on the Google Scholar database for the period of 1995-2025. We identified many determinants of economic literacy, such as gender, age, education, etc. Also, economic literacy has impact on consumer behaviour, entrepreneurial intentions, financial decision-making and economic aspirations. Our research results could help policymakers and economic educators in their efforts to improve economic literacy level.
