Abstract

Food products are of high public importance and their non-compliance with certain safety standards can lead to adverse consequences. For this reason, it is important to exercise increased control over the production, storage, distribution, and trade of food products. The management of these processes can be optimized through the use of new technologies to ensure transparency and information security. One such technology is blockchain, and through its adaptation in the food industry, the processes from production to sale can be optimized. This paper examines and summarizes the opportunities and risks of blockchain technology in the food trade. The study examines examples of already implemented systems in large food product chains.
