Backup and recovery of MongoDB database: features, state, problems

Abstract

NoSQL database systems became widely spread in the last few years. Their main object – to store big amounts of data and deliver higher performance than relational database systems raise questions about their administration. The study focuses on backup and recovery of MongoDB database. It analyzes different methods of backing up data and their advantages and disadvantages. As a results there is a evaluation of each method depending on size of data being backed up. Main conclusion of the paper is that there are variety of features that helps MongoDB administrator to backup data, but there is still more to achieve until MongoDB reaches administration capabilities offered by commercial and well developed DBMS like MS SQL Server and Oracle.
