Abstract

This article aims to analyze the recent balance of payments adjustment in Brazil. Between 2014 and 2015, current account improved remarkably, even though in a less intensive way in comparison with previous adjustments. To explain this result, we have assumed that structural and conjectural factors interacted. More specifically, the Brazilian “Great Reversal” is part of the broader “Great Recession” dynamics in the global economy.
