Determinantes de la sincronización de los ciclos económicos en América del Norte

Abstract

En este artículo se analiza el papel de la integración comercial y financiera, la especialización productiva y las políticas monetarias en la sincronización de los ciclos económicos en América del Norte desde una perspectiva de largo plazo. Para este propósito, se estiman modelos de regresiones aparentemente no relacionadas (SUR) y pruebas de causalidad de Granger con paneles de datos anuales de Canadá, Estados Unidos y México durante el período 1980-2019. Los principales hallazgos sugieren que: 1) la integración comercial tiene un efecto positivo y la especialización productiva un efecto negativo en la sincronización de los ciclos de las economías; 2) el comercio intraindustrial predomina en la región; 3) los procesos de integración comercial y financiera son complementarios; 4) la integración financiera promueve la especialización productiva; y, 5) los avances de la integración comercial y financiera al interior de la región son heterogéneos.
