Connecticut Housing: Variety Adds Some Spice to Price

Author

Listed:
  • Steven P. Lanza

Abstract

Home values, like all prices, are the product of an ongoing interplay between the forces of supply and demand. But those broad forces depend in turn on a range of factors, including the characteristics of home buyers, the homes themselves, and the towns in which the homes are located. Another key determinant appears to be the diversity of the housing stock. Towns with housing units of assorted sizes, from one-room efficiencies to cozy bungalows to sprawling McMansions and everything in between, tend to have and to maintain higher home values than towns that lack residential diversity.
