Investigation and implementation of the hybrid teaching model in geography education at senior high schools

Abstract

Under the background of Internet Plus education, many new teaching models have been derived. Among them, the SPOC (small-scale restricted online courses) plus flipped classroom teaching model combined the advantages of them, has received much attention and favor from the educational circle. In this study, three teachers and six classes of the three typical middle schools in Lanzhou, Tianshui, and Zhangjiachuan were selected to carry out a comparative experiment of the conventional teaching approach and the SPOC integrated with the flipped classroom model within the first-grade geography curriculum. The influence of the SPOC+ flipped classroom model on pedagogical practices and student learning outcomes in high school geography was examined from various perspectives. The study indicates that the SPOC+ flipped classroom approach not only improves students’ interest in geography and their performance efficiency but also fosters the development of their overall abilities and core competencies.
