Disaggregate inventory-sales ratios over time: the case of US companies and corporations, 1976-92

Abstract

The results reported here show that the aggregate figures used in the literature are not adequate to analyse the behaviour of inventories over time. Researchers can obtain more reliable and useful results if they investigate the inventories-sales behaviour at disaggregate level. The disaggregate results reported here give support to those who believe that the increased use of computerized inventory control has been reducing the inventories kept by most firms.
