Shared experiences and reflecting on what we teach

Abstract

The ability to share the gains of one's life experiences is often restricted in the setting of a professional meeting where the emphasis tends to focus on presentations of research findings. The Shared Experiences initiative of the Teaching and Curriculum Section of the American Accounting Association provides venues in these settings for the creation of collegial dialogue, recognizing that senior faculty and administrators are a valuable, and perhaps underutilized, resource to its members. The Shared Experiences theme in the 2004/2005 academic year, Reflecting on What We Teach, provided opportunities for dialogue on ideal curricular models and on practical constraints that may affect how and what we teach.
