Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Höhe gesetzlicher Altersrenten steht in Deutschland in den letzten Jahren wieder im Mittelpunkt öffentlicher Debatten. Überraschenderweise gibt es aber nur wenig Forschung zur Frage, wie hoch Renten eigentlich sein sollten. In diesem Beitrag werden empirisch fundierte Sicherungsziele aus der Literatur diskutiert und einige neue Berechnungen für Deutschland präsentiert. Die Sicherungsziele decken eine weite Bandbreite ab und entsprechen, gemessen am Einkommen vor dem Renteneintritt, Ersatzquoten von 33 % bis 50 %, wenn Armutsvermeidung das Ziel ist, und von 88 % bis 98 % zur Sicherung des Lebensstandards. Die in Deutschland durch gesetzliche Renten tatsächlich erreichten Ersatzquoten liegen in der Regel über den Werten zur Armutsvermeidung, aber unter der Lebensstandardsicherung.
