Abstract

Changing from Diplom to Bachelor has been used by the department of Business Administration of the University of Applied Science in Rheinbach to restructure the lectures in statistics. This is true for “Business Statistics” in first year and “Quantitative Methods in Consulting” in third year. Contact hours were reduced by 20 percent without cutting on statistical topics proportionally. Tests and student presentations were introduced. The first added to a continuous learning process, which is documented by the positive correlation of test- and final exam results. The last increased student initiative and sustainable team building. Increase of learning density and work load has not led to negative effects as experience of the first three and a half years show. Student evaluation on lecture complexity and satisfaction did not significantly change in comparison to the Diplom. The same is true for the failure rate even though “Business Statistics” is taught in English. Copyright Springer 2008
