Abstract

The relationship between innovation and recruitment and mployee selection function is explored in this paper. After explaining the basic concepts about innovation, it was tried to determine the perceptions of human resource managers about whether there is a relationship between innovation and human resource management, and especially recruitment and employee selection. It was seen that innovation was considered to be highly important at the participated companies, but this importance was not reflected to the implementation stage at the same rate. it was also seen a positive relationship between some employee selection methods, (like recruitment from inside the company for open positions, comparing the answers of the candidate and a successful employee, and pre-interview) with the innovation performance of the companies. Besides these, it was determined that some specific techniques like unstructured and semi-structured interviews and ability tests were important in order to employ innovation oriented employees. When the characteristics of candidates were considered, it was also seen a positive relationship between innovation performance of the participated companies and selecting candidates who are different than existent employees (in terms of culture, opinion, sex, etc.), employing candidates resisting to conform to organizational culture and who has different specializations from company’s core operation.
