Abstract

Purpose: The primary purpose of the article is to identify factors and activities influencing the proper management of IT projects. Method: The study was based on the opinions of forty-five experts who took part in the BPM Symposium organized in April 2023 at the University of Warsaw. Expert opinions were collected using a survey questionnaire based on literature analysis and our own professional experience in project management. Results: The result of the conducted research is the determination of the ranking of conditions and effects of the use of computerization projects in the functioning of the organization, the assessment by the organization’s management of the importance of using process management in the organization, the determinants and limitations of the success of IT project management and the effects of the use of process management in such projects. Limitations/implications of the research: The limitation of the study was that it was conducted once for a randomly selected group of experts in the field under study. The conclusions obtained based on the analysis of research results may be valuable both for economic practitioners and educational purposes. Originality/value: The scientific achievements of the article consist of identifying the determinants of optimal project management existing in the minds of experts by confronting the existing theoretical assumptions formulated in the survey form with their practical knowledge. Moreover, the conducted research creates a new research perspective aimed at changes in the awareness of the role of IT projects in the organization.
