Abstract

The aim of the paper is to separate and estimate the size of the information sector for the economy of interwar Poland, based on census data. A methodology for separating the information sector from other economy sectors is proposed. The fourth sector of the economy is separated and its size estimated, in a breakdown by categories of employed population groups. For this purpose, the data from censuses of the years 1921 and 1931 was used, with reference to the most important work performed by the Central Statistical Office of Poland in the interwar period, as well as the classification of professions used in the statistical studies of Poland’s economy at that time. The paper proves that in interwar Poland statistical information was collected, grouped and published according to international standards.
