A Conceptual Analysis of Labour Relations in Cooperatives

Abstract

This paper addresses the issue of union-employer relations in consumer and producer cooperatives. It traces the historical development of cooperative ideology as it relates to trade unionism in cooperatives and the attempts which the two democratically inspired movements have made to establish harmonious bargaining and workplace relationships. It provides evidence that the intensity and frequency of strike activity in cooperatives in Saskatchewan has increased and offers explanation of these phenomena.
