Abstract

El transporte marítimo ha sido una actividad humana importante a lo largo de la historia, especialmente donde la prosperidad dependía principalmente del comercio internacional e interregional. El desarrollo económico mundial de las últimas décadas se ha caracterizado por un acelerado avance del comercio mundial y la división internacional del trabajo. Como resultado del desarrollo expansivo del comercio internacional de mercancías, el transporte marítimo de carga ha sido uno de los sectores económicos de más rápido crecimiento. Esto convierte a la logística marítima como un sector favorable para el desarrollo económico. Los puertos marítimos son un factor importante en las economías regionales, ya que sus operaciones generan efectos positivos en la economía. La aplicación de nuevas tecnologías e innovaciones es importante para el funcionamiento exitoso de los puertos marítimos; su uso reduce costos, facilita el negocio, aumenta la transparencia y atrae nuevas entidades comerciales por lo que el objetivo de este trabajo es identificar la evidencia teórica y empírica de la relación del crecimiento económico y el desarrollo portuario.
