Relación entre crecimiento económico y degradación ambiental, un análisis a nivel global por niveles de ingresos

Abstract

La presente investigación tiene como objetivo examinar la relación entre el crecimiento económico y la degradación ambiental para 122 países durante el periodo 1990-2013, mediante técnicas de cointegración con datos de panel. Los países fueron clasificados de acuerdo a su nivel de ingreso mediante el método Atlas del Banco Mundial (2017). Los principales resultados muestran que la relación entre las emisiones de CO2 y el PIB per cápita para países de ingresos altos y medios altos, no se ajusta a la curva ambiental de Kuznets (1992), sin embargo, para los países de ingresos bajos y medios bajos la relación entre la superficie vegetal y PIB per cápita se aproxima a la forma de la curva ambiental de Kuznets (1992) siendo esto más notorio en países de ingresos medios bajos. En los países de ingresos bajos y medios bajos, las políticas deben enfocarse en la adecuada explotación de recursos naturales ya que esta debe realizarse con las tecnologías eficientes y no exceder esta extracción de recursos naturales a su conservación.
