Ben Bernanke, un economista entre dos grandes depresiones

Abstract

Ben Bernanke ha sido galardonado, junto con Douglas W. Diamond y Philip H. Dybvig, con el Premio Nobel de Economía de 2022. Pocos economistas académicos han podido aplicar su investigación a la política económica como Bernanke. Sus contribuciones científicas más relevantes han estado relacionadas con la Gran Depresión de los años 1930, especialmente con los efectos agravantes de la crisis bancaria y el error de la Reserva Federal de no actuar contundentemente como prestador de última instancia. Por otra parte, como presidente de la Reserva Federal Bernanke se ha enfrentado a la segunda crisis financiera más importante del capitalismo, intentando no repetir los errores que, a su juicio, dicha institución cometió ocho décadas antes.
