La liberalización del comercio agrícola y textil de la OMC: efectos en los países del sur

Abstract

Los cambios en las reglas del comercio internacional de productos agrícolas y textiles tras la creación y entrada en vigor de la OMC en enero de 1995 han variado profundamente los flujos comerciales internacionales de estos sectores. Estos flujos han generado efectos tanto beneficiosos como contraproducentes para las economías de los países del Sur. Por una parte, se ha incrementado el peso de las economías del Sur en las exportaciones mundiales de productos textiles y de la confección, pero, por el contrario, han aumentado las importaciones de alimentos de estos países. Las reglas asimétricas establecidas al respecto han favorecido en general a los intereses de los países del Norte y han impedido así que el grueso de los países del Sur se haya beneficiado suficientemente de la liberalización realizada en estos dos sectores tan importantes y sensibles de sus economías, especialmente en el sector agrícola.
