ABSTRACT During the nineties an intense program of high capacity road construction was carried out in the Spanish road network, which was translated into a substantial improvement of the accessibility to the municipalities. The aim of this paper is to determine if this greater accessibility had positive effects on the location of industrial establishments. In particular, we analyzed this phenomenon for the case of the four Comunidades Autónomas that have common borders with France (Aragón, Catalonia, Navarre and the Basque Country). Our techniques include spatial statistics and spatial Econometrics models. The results confirm that accessibility matters on industrial location.
