Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this work consists in estimating a model that explains per capita income for Spanish regions. The model distinguishes between two kind of variables, territorial variables, that reflect the processes that appear when resources are concentrated in the same location, and non territorial variables, reflecting processes that appear with independence of the concentration of resources in space. Spatial Econometrics techniques are applied due to the existence of spatial dependence in regional per capita income. The model is estimated for two data sets, data for a recession year (1981) and data for an expansive year (1991), in order to determine if these territorial and non territorial processes explain economic growth with independence of the phase of economic cycle in which we are involved.
