Industria y energía petróleo y economía costarricense

Abstract

El estudio introduce un resumen de la situación actual y futura del mercado mundial de petróleo para posteriormente discutir la necesidad y las posibilidades reales de producir insumos sustitutos del hidrocarburo. Seguidamente y con el fin de medir la sensibilidad de la economía costarricense ante cambios en los precios del petróleo, se estiman y analizan funciones de demanda de petróleo, cuyos resultados empíricos apoyan la tesis de que la inelasticidad precio de la demanda estimada, implica que un aumento en el gasto por importaciones es siempre positivo y muy alto ante aumentos en los precios del petróleo. Se concluye que se debe replantear seriamente la idea, de que en ciertas circunstancias, y en momentos específicos, algunas materias primas resultan ser tan importantes o más importantes que la tecnología.
