Economías de ámbito en la industria bancaria costarricense. Un análisis del periodo 1997-2009

Abstract

Se estudia la organización del sistema bancario costarricense durante el periodo 1997-2009 desde el punto de vista de los ahorros en costos de la producción conjunta versus la especializada a través del cálculo de economías de ámbito. Se estima una función de costos translogarítmica para el sistema usando datos de panel con trece unidades transversales o bancos. Se concluye que, para todos los bancos analizados, se presentan ahorros derivados de la producción conjunta. Las economías de ámbito muestran una tendencia decreciente entre el inicio y el final del periodo bajo estudio y, en general, son más altas para los bancos estatales siendo el Banco Nacional el que presenta los mayores valores en toda la muestra.
