Competencia En La Industria Bancaria De Costa Rica. Un Enfoque Desde Las Economías De Escala Para El Periodo 1997-2009

Abstract

Se estima una función de costos translogarítmica para la industria bancaria en Costa Rica a partir de la cual se analiza la presencia de economías de escala por banco y por segmento (público y privado) para el periodo 1997-2009. Se concluye que la banca pública cuenta con mayores economías de escala totales que la privada y costos marginales menores en la colocación del crédito. La banca privada presenta mayores economías de escala en la producción de servicios e inversiones en títulos valores. Los bancos con las mayores economías de escala totales fueron el BAC San José y el Banco Nacional.
