Abstract

[eng] Differentiation of end-consumption products and service agriculture . The aim of this paper is to identify the factors responsible for the diversification of farming away from specialisation in the production of raw materials for the industrial sector and towards the commercial production of end-user goods and services. This turnaround requires a revision of the approach traditionally used by agricultural economists with its emphasis on the specific features of agricultural markets and calls for industrial economics approaches that analyse the link between product differentiation and market structure and for spatial economic analyses that focus on the interdependence between the spatial behaviour of consumers and the geography of supply. It is thus possible to correlate the variable market position of farms depending on product type with technological factors, the attributes of farm products and variations in consumer behaviour.
