Abstract

[eng] Adoption of innovation does not only require information flows but also changes in attitudes. Sometimes the spirit of the community must be changed so that it considers success as a valid goal. So the abundant literature on diffusion of innovations shows the complexity and breadth of the theme. Many conditions must be fulfilled for rapid diffusion so the key word is coordination of diffusion activities. Adoption of innovations often causes increases in intra-agricultural inequality, but this is not inevitable. Similarly, it usually leads to a reduction in active farm population. The example of the Netherlands, however, proves that good extension work increases competitiveness and market shares -which reduces the decline in farm population.
