Abstract

. Classification JEL : Z13, G29 [eng] The possible forms of socially responsible otherness for the European banking community . The European banking community, seen as a link between the commercial banking sector and systems for social economy, seems to be falling into institutional isomorphism which is challenging the local-level solidarity as represented until now by co-operative banks. At the same time, we are seeing the emergence of a new form of finance which is filling the slots left by the « former » co-operative banks. Are we seeing the birth of an alternative banking system ? How does it function ? Is the creation of networks by players in the sector helping to establish a genuine European sector for financial solidarity ? This research paper tries to answer all these questions, using historical analysis to explain the innovative capacities and resilience of the modern financial solidarity systems. .
