Abstract

[eng] Based on the Mertonian model of "pure science", the economics of science presents isolated researchers, without technical objects, who produce mainly certified knowledge. By contrast, studies of research laboratories analyse collectivities which produce heterogeneous goods (knowledge, innovations, training, technical norms, etc.). Yet by taking laboratories as given entities, they tell us nothing about the link between the individual and collective levels.. After a discussion of the main characteristics of these two approaches, we propose the incorporation of the analysis of individual trajectories into that of laboratories, in order to surpass the prevailing dichotomie view.
