Abstract

[eng] There is an abundant literature dealing with quality. In spite of the more and more frequent use of this notion, resorting to it still remains somewhat a source of confusion. The purpose of this paper is to provide further definition and clarification in order to offer a better understanding of this phenomenon. Based on the idea that quality suppose references shared by all economic agents, that is to say, that quality needs preexistent standards, emphasis is put, upstream, on standardisation and, downstream, on resulting certification procedures. The structural and institutional characteristics of these concepts allow a detailed framework where quality can find a specifie place to be built.
