Abstract

[eng] Farm Prices : A Long Term Drop with Wide Fluctuations - Compared to general prices, farm prices have been dropping for more than thirty years, due to increasing efficiency in agriculture which has made it possible for production costs to decline. In the absence of regulations, prices result form the imbalance between supply and demand. They fluctuate widely for potatoes and regularly for pork. . For a long time, the common agricultural policy made it possible to maintain high, stable prices for staple products, which resulted in a steadily rising output. When faced by the surge of surplus, the common agricultural policy had to be reformed: this entailed, for instance, a drastic drop in the price of wheat and imposed a limit on milk production.
