Abstract

[eng] Investments that are more or less beneficial - If a billion extra Francs were invested, in which sector of the economy would it be the most efficient to place them? A simulated run of the PROPAGE Model tells us : in the steel, foundery, chemical, parachemical, rubber, wood-furniture and glass sectors. Over a period of six years, an additional investment applied to one of these seven sectors would better production, help employment and better the commercial balance. In 18 other sectors that were tested, it would improve production and the employment situation, but the commercial deficit would climb. Of course, the PROPAGE Model is not meant to be prophetic, and its results are only valid if the future behaviour of firms and other economic agents remains similar to past performance.
