Abstract

[eng] Competition for Telephones within French Regions - The starting point for this article is a curious observation to the effect that the regional density of telephone installations and the population density are nearly linear over a relatively long period. This observation has led to the development of an original method for classifying regions in terms of their past level of installations and their more recent evolution. This method is applicable not only to the level of telephone installations measured as the number of lines per capita, but also in terms of use, that is, of the average telephone bill per inhabitant. This method can also be used successfully to show the situation within regions regarding other goods and services.
