Abstract

[eng] A New Calendar of First Births - One of the most noticeable aspects of the lower fertility rate noted for France during the last ten years is the growing tendency towards having a first child later in a marriage. The regular and numerically important decline in births between the eighth and eighteenth first months of a marriage does not appear to be compensated for later on during the marriage. This tendency superimposes itself on the evolution of premarital births for which a rapid decline was registered, after having increased steadily until 1972. At the end, the article presents remarks attempting to explain the phenomenon.
