[eng] Wages' evolution in 1975 -Taking into account the reduction of hours of work, workers' wages have, on the average, increased in 12,1 % in one year (October 1974 to October 1975); according to INSEE's consumer's price index, this corresponds to an increase of the purchasing power of weekly earnings amounting to 1,7% over the same period. Contrary to the previous year, during which inflation had pressed heavily upon real earning's increase, the important reduction of hours of work explains the lesser progression of the purchasing power of workers' weekly earnings in 1975. Slightly more important increases have been registered over the same period with regard to SMIC (growth's interprofessional minimum wage) and civil servants' pay, especially with regard to low categories; nevertheless, on the whole, disparity in wages according to skill has been scarcely modified. In spite of the reduction of the number of workers, of the development of unemployment, either partial or total,' and of the important reduction of hours of work due to economic recession, the purchasing power of wages and social allowances paid! to households remained; slightly improved in 1975.
