Abstract

The Italian economist Gino Borgatta, pupil of Vilfredo Pareto, was one of the greatest scholars of public finance of his day. From around 1914 to mid-1920s, alongside his academic work, Borgatta dedi - cated a lot of his energies to a press campaign against protectionism. Since the mid-twenties, however, Borgatta performed a partial reevaluation of protectionism and in the thirties supported, in his scientific work and in newspapers, the autarkic regime wanted by Mussolini. Such accession took place at the same time as consulting Borgatta held for administrative bodies and institutions of the Fascist regime.
