Abstract

Esta investigación busca determinar el efecto de las remesas provenientes del extranjero sobre el ingreso laboral de los hogares ecuatorianos, mediante un enfoque distribucional usando regresiones cuantílicas. Para reducir la presencia de sesgo de selección, se emparejaron los datos en características observables a través del Propensity Score Matching y el Coarsened Exact Matching. La fuente de información empleada fue la Encuesta Nacional de Empleo, Desempleo y Subempleo (ENEMDU) para los años 2015 y 2020. Los resultados evidencian un efecto negativo de las remesas en los ingresos laborales, particularmente en los deciles bajos y medios, es decir, un efecto heterogéneo en la distribución. Esto sugiere que las remesas podrían desincentivar la participación laboral en estos deciles. Estos hallazgos tienen implicancias relevantes para el diseño de políticas públicas que busquen fortalecer la inserción laboral y mejorar la calidad del empleo entre los hogares receptores de remesas en contextos de alta vulnerabilidad socioeconómica.
