Abstract

Political marketing is a subject that has gained more and more attention, from both scholars, and the public, due to the political changes nowadays, and to the increased exposure brought bythe Internet and the new means of communication. Social media marketing is addressing the newsegments of population, which are intensely involved in their online life, and are reluctant to traditionalmedia, such as TV and newspapers. As all marketers are focusing on being present on, andgaining as much as possible from the social platforms, political marketers are also integrating thisinto theirs strategies. The first success story to be attributed largely to the presence of social mediain a campaign, is the one of Barack Obama’s 2008 Presidential win, a moment that can be consideredto be the real beginning of social media politics.
