Abstract

Psalms occupy a focal point in Christian spirituality and worship. The use of psalms in the primary Christiam worship is recorded in the writings of the New Testament. Aside from scripturistical pasages, which make reference to the use of psalms by the first Christians, starting with the Apostles, there are numerous literary proofs, according to which psalms were appreciated and practiced by the Church to the same extent as this occurs today. Most Apostolic Fathers and Apologists use quotes from psalms or make statements regarding the psalm rituals in the spiritual life of the first Christians.
