Abstract

The first part of our paper is a theoretical debate of the most important research results concerning the Roma population in Romania and Hungary, while in the second part we proceed to the interpretation of our own empirical research data. Methodologically, our research is based on sociological survey. Data concerning socio-occupational characteristics of Roma communities have been collected by means of a questionnaire based survey of active aged Roma population from Oradea and neighbouiring rural localities in Romania and Hungary (Oşorhei, Ineu de Criş, Biharkeresztes, Told). The paper concludes with policy reccommendations aimed at the members of the target group.
