Sentiment analysis in the banking sector and finance

Abstract

At present, banks are interested in improving the quality of their own processes and models for decision-making within these processes. Process improvement involves its automation, that is, replacing manual work with automated mechanisms that enhance service quality and reduce banking costs; model improvement involves increasing its accuracy and stability by using additional information. One possible way to achieve this optimisation is sentiment analysis, which allows recognising information from texts and using it both for automating banking processes and for improving the accuracy and stability of the models developed by banks. Currently, many Russian banks are implementing sentiment analysis methods into their internal processes and taking their results into account when developing their own models, thereby gaining competitive advantages in the market. The article examines the essence, methods, objectives, types of classification and examples of sentiment analysis dictionaries in banking. The specifics of applying sentiment analysis in both international and Russian practices are analysed in detail, and the prospects and trends for the development of sentiment analysis in Russia and abroad in the near future are presented.
