Disease threat to European fish

Abstract

Fishing gone Since it was introduced into Romanian ponds, the Asian gudgeon Pseudorasbora parva has spread rapidly across Europe. Where it thrives, a native fish on the endangered list, the European cyprinid Leucaspius delineatus, declines. The disappearing fish are victims of an infectious pathogen, probably carried by healthy Asian fish. The signs are that this might affect other fish species in Europe and also have implications for commercial aquaculture.
