Abstract

This article comprises the psychotherapeutic approch in a case of a child whose developmental needs were neglected by his parents and for whom it was proposed protection in a residential system. From the social work practice it is noticed the fact that the separation of the child from his parents, in many cases, is dramatically experienced by the child. The intensity of emotional reactions vary from child to child, an important factor depicting the affective investment of the child in the relationship with his parents or caregiver. The child's entry into the placement center can cause him anxiety therefore a psychotherapeutic intervention is required for the process of the adaptation. To validate this assumption I have initiated a psychotherapeutic process with the child, noting some emotional behavioral changes that led to the replacement of the emotional inhibition, caused also by the adjustment to the new environment, with the expression of the feelings.
