The Philippine Income Distribution Problem

Abstract

Income distribution is a major, yet neglected, concern of economic development. Economic development is defined here as the degree of attainment of the various economic objectives of the nation.') In general, these national objectives fall under thee main headings : 1. A desire by each individual for more of the pleasantries in life the length of life itself; food ; housing - as well as less of the nuisances in life - such as inflation, unemployment, or sickness. 2. A desire by society as a whole of a more equitable or fairer sharing of both the goods and the bads. 3. A desire to make better provision in the present for the welfare of future generations - by investments in traditional forms of capital, by investments in human capital, and by safeguards for natural resources.
