Educar para la paz: una dimensión de la Responsabilidad Social Universitaria

Abstract

The new Global Objectives and 2030 Agenda for sustainable development reaffirm that development without peace and peace without sustainable development is not possible, emphasizing that education is the means to achieve it. For its part Ecuador declared itself as a country of peace, in its 2008 Constitution determined that the university actions must respond to the needs of the country as a manifestation of its social responsibility. However, aspects related to promoting education for peace are not specified. In this context the research is configured with the aim of establishing from the perspective of teachers and students how education for peace should be considered in university action. An exploratory study was carried out through a bibliographical review and through non-probabilistic sampling; surveys were carried out at public universities located in Quito. The results show that the majority concern about the importance of incorporating education for peace as a guiding dimension of the exercise of social responsibility. It is possible to educate for peace, among other ways promoting a culture of respect, tolerance, practice of values, equal opportunities and democratic participation in different university areas.
