Abstract

Most countries in the world now have a competition law, and most were adopted within the past two or three decades. Sometimes they arose directly from the work of domestic reformers, but often they were enacted under pressures from international lending institutions or potential partners in trade agreements. Many governments and organizations provided technical assistance for the writing of the laws and the training of enforcement staffs. This Special Issue includes articles that examine aspects of the specific experiences of Brazil, China, Egypt, India, and five countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
