Abstract

The article describes the process by which a professional golfer, denied the right by an association of her peers to participate in a tournament, sought injunctive relief and damages under the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The establishment of damages, described in the paper, rested upon the statistical estimation of her score and resulting winnings had she been allowed to play in the event. The summary points out that this is typical of lawsuits between athletes and sports organizations whose outcomes depend upon reconstructing an event which would have been influenced by either the participation or nonparticipation of a specific athlete.
